Over the summer we found an injured baby bunny and just like Leah would do we captured it and tried to nurse it back to health. Seeing it had an injury to one of its legs we contacted the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center in Hampton Bays and brought the bunny to them for rehabilitation. We made a donation in Leahs memory from the foundation and they featured her in the last 2 newsletters that they have sent us. What a wonderful place this was where they rehabilitate so many different animals and release them back into the wild. Leah would have been so happy to have helped that tiny bunny. 💙💙
Our Annual Car Wash was finally back and held on Saturday, July 30, 2022 and it was another great success. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time, came to have their car washed, donated and supported the foundation. Your generosity, love and support has all been so overwhelming. We appreciate Everyone that continues to support us and Leahs Foundation and it means so much.
This year we gave out 2 scholarships to graduating Seniors, Alexa Rago and Michaela Cooney. These students were chosen by the scholarship committee and met all the criteria of someone who best represents who Leah was: kind, selfless, compassionate, involved, making a difference in the lives of others and students that don't go along with what is popular, but what is right. The students exemplified Leahs giving and caring ways and her love for life. Continue to do good deeds in Leah's memory and always remember to Make Every Second Count and Live More Kind. We wish them the best of luck in college and the future.
An award was established in Leah's name and given to a graduating 6th grader from Leah's Elementary School who best exemplified her.
This years recipient holds a very special place in our hearts and was very special to Leah. They shared a special bond and my family would like to think that Leah had a hand in molding her into the beautiful, caring young girl that she is today. Congratulations to Riley Zembera on being chosen by the 6th grade teachers to receive this award in Leahs memory. We know that Riley will continue to Make Every Second Count and
Live More Kind for Leah everyday.
Leah loved participating in the Polar Bear Plunge in Long Beach to support the Make A Wish Foundation with her friends. This year the plunge was on Leah's 20th birthday, February 6th, 2022. “Leah's Legacy" again had a great turnout. The foundation presented the team with a donation on behalf of Leah's Legacy to Make A Wish. Our team was top 3 in fundraising for the Make A Wish this year and I am so thankful to everyone who helped make that happen.
Thank you to all who came out to support Make A Wish and to keep Leah's Legacy alive.
Our Second Annual Casino Night was held on Saturday, March 2,2020 at Leonards Palazzo of Great Neck, NY. It was a huge success and we would not have been able to do it without the generous donations of baskets and prizes, the sponsorships and all the help from our friends and family that gave so much of their time to help out. We can't thank you all enough for everything. A special thank you to Jack LaSala For all his help, his generous Grand Prize raffle donations and his support in everything we do.
For Leah's Birthday, this year and for the past years and coming years, our Foundation has and will continue to sponsor meals at the Mary Brennan Inn in Hempstead. This year we sponsored not only her birthday but also another day and Leah's friends were able to serve over 450 people a hot meal. We helped prepare the meal, sorted clothes that were donated and helped stock the food pantry as well as any other things that were needed to help out. We are looking forward to the coming years as we all know that Leah would have loved to be there with us helping out.
Through the sales of bracelets, a good friend of Leah, Casey Waldron, was able to raise enough money to purchase a bench and Crepe Myrtle tree in Leah's memory. It was placed on the New Hyde Park Memorial property by the Shack for all to see and remember Leah. SEPTA and the Best Buddies also dedicated 2 Butterfly Bushes and a beautiful plaque in Leah's name. We can't thank you enough for this beautiful dedication.
